Provence is a most captivating place, amongst it treasures are the snowy Alpine peaks, the sea of pink flamingo’s and let’s not forget the fantastic food and wine. There is enough to see and to allure its visitors back year after year.

The Garrigue is the typical landscape and is where you will typically find Juniper and stunted oaks, aromatic lime tolerant shrubs which fill the air with smells of lavender, sage, rosemary and wild thyme.

The open countryside is filled with dense thickets to Kermes Oak which look like green clouds that have fell from the sky, be careful though as these are not as soft as they look, their prickly leaves can leave a nasty sting.

The countryside is filled with charming villages, such as the village of Eze which is only a short drive from Nice.

If you drive through the narrowing streets you will come across the Jardin Exotique, or Exotic Garden. At the top of Monaco this garden offers 360 degrees of striking views.
You don’t have to be interested in plants to enjoy the exotic garden as this is one of the most interesting attractions in the Provence.

With over ten thousand plants arranged over an array of rocky beds that wind down the mountain side this truly offer some amazing sights. When you do eventually reach the bottom there is a cave that you can explore.

The Camargue offers some unique sights as it is home to over 400 species of birds. The most famous of these is the greater Flamingo which feed in the brine ponds.

The Camargue is the only place in France and one of the few in all the Mediterranean where these pink flamingos nest.

The population can reach a staggering forty thousand that must be seen to be believed.

In all, the Camargue covers almost 140,000 hectares containing wetlands, pastures, dunes and salt flats. Other species that can be seen here include the Camargue bulls and horses.

If you are lucky you will get the opportunity to see the riders known as the Guardians. The Guardians live a lifestyle that is about as close as you cold get to the cowboy way of life in these more modern times.

Few things are as romantic as exploring the unknown and discovering new sights. The Provence is home to numerous historic and cultural sights are so memorable you will be talking about them to your grandchildren.
