Cannes is one of the most famous cities of the French Riviera and is a city of many faces. The city is most famous for its good climate luxurious shops, fine dining restaurants and luxurious hotels but offers much more.

The city wraps itself round the old port and its centre is compact allowing its visitors to explore the city without too much walking.

The Croisette is the famous waterfront and its palm trees stretch into the protected Rade de Cannes. The Croisette boats picturesque beaches and is lined with cafés and luxurious boutiques.

The best view of the Croisette can be seen from La Suquet, or old town. Narrow streets wrap around the hill after which it was named and leads the way to the some of the finest views reaching as far as the eye can see.

Cannes is the star of the Riviera so to speak, hosting the international film festival. Cannes can become quite frenzied during this time.

It is during this time that you are most likely to see a famous face, surrounded by the flashing of the paparazzi.

The must see of the Cannes is the Iles Lérins which is only a short boat ride away. This small archipelago consists of two main islands, the Sainte Marguerite and the Saint Honorat.

These Islands are pedestrian only which makes for a peaceful atmosphere.

The Sainte Marguetire is covered by a beautiful forest of Allepo pine and eucalyptus that grow adjacent to the many footpaths covering the length and breadth of the island. It took ‘The Man in the Iron Mask’ eleven long years to escape this tiny forested island, or so the story goes.
The Fort Royal is where the tiny cell once housed the famous prisoner and can be found just a few yards from the port. Beware though, for once you enter you may not escape!
The Saint Honorat Island has a more religious feel and is home to the Cistercian monks that are the only inhabitants of the Island.

Medieval remains can be seen within the desolate church which is now open to the public. The monks spend the majority of their time in prayer or making wine, this combined with the surrounding make you feel like you have truly travelled back in time.
